Hi folks,
We just got in two Remington UMC 1911's. How do I find out if the frames are the original and it's not a "Frankenstein" 1911?
Both frames are stamped with the "UNITED STATES PROPERTY", both have Remington slides and period correct diamond checkered grip panels but...

Hey, it may be very helpful in purchasing a Gun Digest Firearms Catalog. It'll list everything Remington made along with other manufacturers and it'll give a good idea of worth too. They typically run around $40.

Actually these are just model 700, not the 770 (sorry, the things you get used to typing).
They are beautiful. Each tiger striped maple or oak stocks with diamond inlays and swelled grips.
Mr Turner did an amazing job, but like an engraver, it's always great to have the back story!

Custom Build 770 for Left Hander
We received 6 custom made model 770's left handers for auction.
Each one is stamped "Custom Built for Lanny Freeman by - John L Turner." These are all date coded in the mid-70's.
My question, does anyone know John L Turner? Was he a reputable gunsmith? Was he Remington only?
