Thanks Paul, for the information. I don't have the ability to reload or I would definitely try it. Is there a place where this type of shell could be purchased or do I just need to rely on someone locally to do this for me? Being an older guy myself, I understand about the recoil.

My understanding is that both the 1878 and 1879 used the same series of serial numbers. Mine would be near the end of that ...

Finally, my last set of photos. You will note that the gun is showing it's age. It is rather plain without any embellishments. Nonetheless it is a survivor. I suspect the etched name is from a previous owner. Not sure if it will ever be fired again, just appreciated for it's age. Thanks to anyone ...

Making my first post after searching the forum with due diligence. I purchased a Remington 10 gauge SxS from a neighbor's yard sale simply because it looked neat and I had never owned a 10 gauge before. I came to this forum to research and I suspect this may be a 1879 lifter model.
