Re: Rolling Block #1 Barrel replacement

In order to make this work as is, I would have to reload 43 in a 348 WCF case. I have read that people have done it as that was a normal thing to do at one point many years ago and that a number of these were converted to do just that. I believe it was because the 43 cases were scarce and 348 was so...

Re: Rolling Block #1 Barrel replacement

Oregunsmithing said to rechamber in 450 or 50 Alaskan. I am not familiar with any old ammo so I will have to look into these. I am looking for cost effective ammo and that is one reason I like the 45-70. I did want to keep the round at least something the Rolling Block used but neither of those choi...

Re: Rolling Block #1 Barrel replacement

I made contact with Oregunsmithing. The said they can rebore to 45-70 for $350. I don't think they have to take the barrel off. 3-4 months. Has anyone used them before?

Re: Rolling Block #1 Barrel replacement

Look around at some of these sites, who would I contact if I wanted to have my original barrel relined OR have an original barrel of another caliber fitted on my existing receiver? It seems like many of these sites use new barrels. Thanks

Re: Rolling Block #1 Barrel replacement

Another thought. Will the existing sights work with any type of ammo or are the sights specific for certain types of ammo?

I will reach out to different places and see what my options are. This is looking very promising.

Re: Rolling Block #1 Barrel replacement

I am not really familiar with black powder type rounds. Is 38-55 always a black powder type round? I see them for sale on Gunbroker as old and new production.

Re: Rolling Block #1 Barrel replacement

I believe my barrel is original as it has the proper markings. It is my understanding that the Argentine 43 Spanish came with the Knox form barrel and I see them for sale all the time and I have the 43 Argentine. I would prefer the 45-70 as I use that it my trap door and it is much more cost effecti...

Re: Rolling Block #1 Barrel replacement

And the later frames came in types 3 and 4?

Does anyone have any suggestions:

1) How I should search for another barrel?

2) What calibers should I search for?

3) Should I only search for #1 frame type 4 only?

Thank you.

Re: Rolling Block #1 Barrel replacement

So is it a late #1 frame / rotary extractor receiver, type 4? I have been looking at different pieces of information and hoping I have this information locked down at this point. Thanks

Re: Rolling Block #1 Barrel replacement

DSCN1842.JPG Here is a picture of mine. I don't know if this helps or not. I have a 43 Argentine and the throat was modified for 348 WCF. I have never reloaded and I haven't found any ammo for it, so I was looking to replace the barrel to something more practical.....45-70 is preferred but I wanted...

Re: Rolling Block #1 Barrel replacement

Based on what you are saying, the threading on the receiver #1 may be different as well? Based on pictures, I have a No.1 Rotary Extractor. Thanks

Re: Remington Rolling Block in .348 Winchester Questions

Also, I did use a caliper on the muzzle and it led me to believe it was a 43 caliber as it was just under 45. I have never used one and I know it is an estimate. I will look for a video on using a caliper on a muzzle and see what I find as well. I am guessing it would be more accurate on a slugged l...
