I finally got photos of the breech block.
It is definitely an Army model centerfire.

Was there ever...1871 Army Rimfire?
I am looking at images of an 1871 Army .50 Rolling Block. Waiting for photos of the block but I am skeptical. I suspect if true it is a case of the older block being swapped into the later pistol.
Were there any 1871 Army pistols manufactured in rimfire? I am not finding any such references in my ...

WTB Military Barrel Band 50-70
I have acquired a NY contract rifle that has an ugly jury rigged front barrel band. I need a correct sling swivel band. Willing to purchase the full set if required.

Substitute or repro barrel band
Hello to the list,
I have a newly acquired New York contract 50-70 rifle. Decent condition overall with a glaring exception. The front barrel band with the sling swivel is an obvious kludged substitute from an unknown donor. Mr. Womack does not have that item in stock and it seems that even the ...

Re: New Guy - New Smoot - Rod Removal Question
Thank you. I thought I was losing my mind. Your description matches exactly. Octagonal barrel.
So, its an even more scarce bird than before? Oh Boy.
I have read that the #3 was made with most of the run in bird head and the last 6000 or so with the more "modern" grip. Any word on how many had ...

Re: New Guy - New Smoot - Rod Removal Question
Bill,
I see all that you are saying. The cylinder comes out no problem. But there is no way to get the cylinder rod or spring out of the tube. The pin at the front is redundant and unnecessary. The slot that keeps the 2 round rings (around the ejector rod) on the straight and narrow is closed at ...

New Guy - New Smoot - Rod Removal Question
Hello to the group. I am new to this arena and to Remington revolvers.
I purchased a #3 .38 Colt Short with the birdhead grip. Near perfect working condition. Smooth, locks up tight, no sticking or slop at any point. Nickle is in great shape on the frame, very good on the barrel and spotty on the ...
