Re: Date for Rem/Hepburn #3

Thanks for your interest and response marlin1893, I collect these. To help with the mfg date of my Hepburn I took it off the wall to examine and find the ser#is actually 3615. The bbl is 30” and stamped on the underside; 40.2 1/2. Hunting grade with chekered round knob pg/ S-curved steel buttplate w...

Re: Date for Rem/Hepburn #3

Thanks, Your tip on the 40 2/12 cases is just what I hoped for, I will order 50. Still hoping someone can shed light on just when this rifle was built. I don’t know if ser#s overlaps with other models but I am wondering if this one could be old enough to be a genuine “Buffalo Rifle” as so many claim...

Date for Rem/Hepburn #3

Hello fellow Remington enthusiasts, Question; Can anyone give me at least an approximate date of mfg. for my Number-3 Rem/Hepburn ser#3683? Sad to say I have owned this fine rifle since 1979 and still don’t know. Also, in the past I had loaded 30-40 Krag cases in the 40-2 1/2 chamber only to find ex...

Re: In need of a Marbles R11 tang sight for a Model 25

Hello model81, I recently bought a collector M-25 missing the Marbles tang sight also, and after study found that replacing it was not going to be as easy as I thought. Turns out the R-11 sight has a 21/2” hole to hole measurement to the stock hole exclusive to this sight. If the Marbles sight previ...

Remington 1889 shotgun in great cond.

Hello, My son recently acquired this 12ga in what appears to be grade 1, but in a condition I wouldn’t expect to find for its age. Story has it that great grandpa bought it new and while staying in the family passed through three generations of closets. Can anyone shed an opinion on what this was an...

Re: Deluxe Remingtons

Thanks Jim, And right you are about shaving off lead using pistol bullets, I should have mentioned the importance of using gas checks and seating depth and I learned this the hard way. Attention to bore cleaning is crucial after using alloy bullets in rifles without gas checks. Much of the pleasure ...

Re: Deluxe Remingtons

Thanks Jim, Yours, like mine, is a custom stock and thanks for the photo. I disassembled the whole rifle after I got it and cleaned everything and found nothing stamped on the stock, but it is sure to be one of my favorites to shoot. 35cal loaded with cast/jacketed bullets @ around 1600fps is way fu...

Re: Deluxe Remingtons

Hank, I looked at the pics of your 760 and must say they are done the same at the cheeks and checkered wrists. Yours seems to have the correct grip cap/bp as well. I would say a strong case exists that it was factory done when it was returned to Remington. Not so much with mine as neither the grip c...

Re: purple hue bolt handles

Not restricted to Remingtons this is often found. It’s all about metallurgy. The hot nitre blue often used (and others) reacts differently to steel with a high nickel content. Often these parts look perfectly blued but after 6mos or more will begin to turn reddish/purple looking. Winchester encounte...

Re: Deluxe Remingtons

No, not a mark. The only mark on the wood anywhere is the number 35 on the inner tip of the forend that I assume refers to the cal. The buttplate is one I have seen on other Remingtons but is unmarked, same with the grip cap. I removed the buttplate from another M-14 from the same year and did find ...

Re: Deluxe Remingtons

Still trying to understand just what This Remington M-14 is and have attached two more photos of the stock. The standard opinion is that it is after market. The rifle is from 1927 and when I received it everything looked that old before applying TLC. I would sure like to hear from someone that has s...

Remington UMC Autoloading Rifle

A question for Remington collectors: Attached are pics of my .32cal. It would seem the role stamps and lack of stamping on the receiver when compared to the ser# don’t match up. If it’s not a M-1900, And not stamped as a M-8, and is serial numbered in the 34K range then just what is it? A parts clea...
