Re: Remington Model 1875 & 1890 references

It sure looks to have been doing by someone VERY skilled....where the bladed site meets the barrel, it almost appears seamless.

I am very fortunate to own a ‘75 finally, and it functions perfectly. A great addition to my old west collection.

Re: Remington Model 1875 & 1890 references

I don’t know how I missed your reply Daniel, but thank you for all the info !! Is it true that some were also shortened at the factory ? And if so, is there any way to tell ?

Thanks again,
Clay

Re: Remington Model 1875 & 1890 references

Is there any info on serial # ranges in regards to production year ? I have an 1875 with a serial # in the low 300s in a 44-40 with the “44” stamp on the left side frame, between cylinder and barrel......been really curious on when it may have been made ??

Re: HELP !! New 1858 Find

Have you ever come across a grip stamped CAV ? That stamping is in the middle of the left grip.

I updated some of the photos for reference

HELP !! New 1858 Find

Not gonna lie, I’m always excited finding another 1858 New Army. I need help with any background you may be able to offer. I’ll try to be as descriptive as I can. Serial Number 121XXX is on the barrel, frame, and the underside of the trigger guard. Its hard to tell on the cylinder, but on the nipple...

A question just came to mind, does Remington have an archive division like Colt ? Where a guy can find out shipment information etc ?

Re: NEED HELP, Identify 1858 New Army Conversion

Thank you for all of the help everyone !! So question that remains, is everything is tight, and cylinder rotates and locks up appropriately....if I wanted to shoot this recreationally, what kind of loads did it use to shoot (it measures 44 caliber) ?? Re: NEED HELP, Identify 1858 New Army Conversion

All numbers match except the barrel.....and the conversion number “19” is on all including the barrel. The EC would seem now to be an inspectors stamp, after the changed barrel passed ?

I did find out that Whitney did do some Remington Navy conversions, so it’s possible he did New Army’s as well....

Re: NEED HELP, Identify 1858 New Army Conversion

Somebody told me it possibly could be a Whitney conversion ? I thought Eli Whitney Jr. only worked with Colt and of course those firearms of his own design.

Any idea what the EC stamp may stand for ?
