update: well got the barrel cleaned out real good and so i have been measuring the barrels bore. the bore is very tight for a military rifle. i still have some loads from my shiloh sharps days with the bullets sized to .459" the nose section of a 457125 will not go into the bore. the bore has 5...

i hope so i think the hornady 140gr GMX bullets would be a great match up with this rifle if its
accurate.
what scope base would work on this rifle, weaver side mount???? i cant hunt with it without a scope.

hey guys picked up a Remington lee bolt action and they thought it was a 30-40 krag caliber. well it's not it's 30-30 caliber. serial number is 75996, it has no caliber markings on it anywhere barrel is a little over 23 inches. bore seems good but man i have never seen so much copper fowling!!! mayb...

guys just look at the blocks back side and you will see where the hammer rides the block, this occurs when the block is full opened, click, then when you close it it slips off the block and into the half cock.

yes it does, i don't remember which message board i was on but one of the statement that some of the soldiers bought their rifles and had them re-barreled to 45/70. i wasnt sure exactly what he meant.

here are the only numbers on this rifle' but there is a name empressed in the stock. i can reads the top one but not the bottom??? thomas is the top name. there is nothing else on this rifle. it is an 1871 because it has all the atributes, long hammer spur, goes into safe when you open the block. so...
