Re: Model 51 letter code
have not heard name Frank Anchor mentioned in connection with the "anchor" mark. that mark is typically found on upper right side of trigger guard and the bottom of backstrap/grip safety. Inspectors usually left their mark (or initials) only on the frame. thought "anchor" was not...

Re: Rem 51 .380 on GB serial # 695
thought only barrels were unmarked until .32 intro. have never seen an unmarked factory .380 mag! (very earliest mags have ejector built in to top -- was quickly relocated to the frame.) .32 intro was 1921; all earlier pistols I have seen (1918-1920) have mags marked 380CAL. hoping someone out there...

might help to post on post-1898 RIFLES board rather than the post-1898 PISTOLS board.

Model 51 trigger pull
the four model 51's I have had all had rather heavy/stiff trigger pull. some have said this was another form of an intentional "safety". have also heard that later production improved or lightened trigger pull. any info or opinions about this?

Re: Model 51 letter code
am guessing that random pistols were pulled from production and inspected, hence the inspector's initials found on some guns. just my theory though!

Rem 51 .380 on GB serial # 695
just saw a very nice Model 51 in 380 on Gunbroker with serial #695. Don't know that I've ever seen one that early! Auction ends in 10 days (April 28). Probably will be out of my price range by then.

Re: Model 51 letter code
why would Remington tell me that they are inspector initials and that they do not relate to date of mfg.?? it is already apparent that serial 427XX is from 1922!

Re: Model 51 letter code
Mystery may be solved! In an email from Remington they said, "The LT markings are just inspector markings, they carry no significance for dating the pistol." I may contact the Remington historian [(800) 243-9700] to find out if they have any info regarding identity of inspectors.

Re: Model 51 letter code
thanks to admin for posting info -- will see if I can figure it out. would like to circle back to Model 51 trigger guard letter codes. on Ed Buffaloe's great site he shows a close up of pistol (serial #65688) with an LN code on trigger guard. that would be a .32 made in 1923 but the LN makes it feb....

Re: Model 51 letter code
thanks steve -- I thought letter codes only applied to rifle/shotgun barrels. not sure I know how to upload photos yet. capital letters "LT" are located on upper front of left side trigger guard, both being evenly spaced and centered in that space.

Re: Model 51 letter code
thanks Steve, am confused serial # (427XX) puts it at 1922, however "LT" on upper left front trigger guard makes it appear as feb. 1926. backstrap/grip safety looks like it may have been replaced as finish appears different than rest of gun. Could this have been returned factory work, then...

Model 51 letter code
Upper left front trigger guard has "LT" stamp. What is this? Serial is 427XX so this is a 1922 pistol. Help me if you can! THANX!!

Re: new to forum from Ohio north coast
not a reply but a follow up thanks to admin for posting the 10 pages on the Model 51 back in March. especially enjoyed the list of production dates and serial number ranges -- many thanks!
