Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg

I call this one my "rescue rifle" it looks like whoever owned it before left it in the corner of their bedroom closet and let it rust up. It needs a good cleaning and de-rust treatment to get it in working order but everything is there, headspaces correctly, and has an excellent bore. Hre ...

Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg

Was up in Idaho last week and stopped in a local gun store. They had a Remington Model 721 in 30-06 sitting on the shelf. I could not pass it up for $240.00, it has an Herters I think, after-market stock with a really short length of pull, I'm going to look for a factory stock to put back on the rif...

Model 510 Targetmaster 1939 Manual vs. Later Versions

I recently came across an Original Remington 510 Targetmaster Instruction for Operation and Care manual. I bought it because I had never seen a 510 manual that was laid out this way. The envelope the "The New 1939" on it and the instruction front page has the rifle's specifications whereas...

Re: Replacement Model 721 Barrel or counter bore

A lot of the "accuracy" can also depend on the scope (parallax), the bedding, the stock screws being snug/tight, and trigger pull.......not to mention the loads. Hand loads or factory? Hand loads can be tweaked to much better accuracy than factory loads. It may be premature to blame the a...

Re: Replacement Model 721 Barrel or counter bore

You didn't comment on what type of accuracy you have with the existing condition of the barrel. If it's "reasonable", leave it alone. If not, have a competent gunsmith remove the front sight, cut and re-crown the barrel. Den, Not too great; it was about 3" groups at 100 yd. at 300 yd...

Re: Replacement Model 721 Barrel or counter bore

Has this been gone over by a gunsmith? I'm struggling with why this happened at the muzzle in the first place! I've used a bore cam on the bore and the ware is isolated to just under a 1/2" from the muzzle. When I bought the rifle I did'nt gauge the barrel, my mistake I guess I was excited abo...

Replacement Model 721 Barrel or counter bore

I found that the first 1/2" from the muzzle is worn to the point that a bullet head will fall into it without issue. There is no throat erosion at the other end, I have not slugged the barrel yet though. I was wondering if anyone had a source for replacement barrels, new, used, or aftermarket f...

WTB: Remington 721 Barrel in 300 H&H

I need to replace the barrel on my Remington 721. I'm looking for a 721 300 H&H barrel with a good bore, I'm not overly worried about the finish I can reblue if nessessary.

Thank you,

Bill

Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg

I saw an early Remington 721 30-06 on an auction. Since there were no pictures of the inside the bolt rail I ask the seller for the serial number. He told me it didn't have one. I told him that the serial number was located in the receiver and if he pulled the bolt back he would see it. I also told ...

Re: remington 700 .222mag

i like a challenge and the .222 mag has proved to be one. don't know why dies are so hard to find when other oddball and obsolete cartridge's are available. does anybody have any reloading data with modern powders, varget, cfe223 etc. Lyman 50th Edition has a really good section on the .222 Remingt...

Re: remington 700 .222mag

I think all of us gun-type have passed and then regret, I've regretted more that I have sold than not bought. The .222 is still on my mind so I might call and asked about it tomorrow. The gun store is only open Wednesday and Saturday/

Re: remington 700 .222mag

Or, do you just want to collect something that's pretty rare? Den... That's pretty much it, I collect odd things, I'm attracted to the odd calibers and older rifles (not that it's an old rifle) Just picked you a 721 in 300 H&H for those reasons. For that .222 I was looking at I was on the fence...

Re: remington 700 .222mag

I was looking at one of these yesterday at the gunshop, I was tempted to buy it but because I don't know anything about the round, it didn't bite the bullet and bring it home. It would be interesting to hear what people think of the round, the 700 itself is rock solid.
