The blue looks to be original. The stock looks like it was probably varnished over.

Yes, I can shoot some more pictures. My curiosity is why the barrel isn't marked as it should be and what the actual marking means. I'm assuming that the left side mark is suppose to be a 'U' but that doesn't correspond to anything about this rifle in terms of date of manufacture. Is the mark on the...

I have a Model 721 in 30-06 S/N 23893 but I'm not understanding the date code (see pics). Shouldn't there be another letter or 2?
