Request recognized assessment/appraisal for unfired 58 Remington NMA
I'm 81 & a long time Idaho collector of flint & percussion era antique firearms & am now parting with a portion. In my collection I have a 1858 Remington NMA in unfired condition with 98+% of it's original bluing. It's matching 62,5xx serial numbers indicates it was part of the March 186...

Certain years of Uberti repro revolver cylinders will interchange & function well.
Might consider contacting forum member 45D on the Muzzleloader forum, he's very talented with single action revolvers.

1858 NMA date of mfg. question
The barrel, trigger guard & frame on my NMA is marked with serial # 6252X along with inspection marks, could you tell me what year it was made ?
Are there any books available that cover the manufacture & assembly methods Remington & Sons used on their Civil War firearms ?
Thank you,
Chuck

Re: Question, odd G stamp on right grip frame
Thanks for the correction on that point i forgot yours is a civilian pocket model. Perhaps there is some connection between our G markings, perhaps one day a clever forum member will be able to identify who this G-man was & what his job was at Remington ? The exterior distortion damage to my rev...

Re: Question, odd G stamp on right grip frame
I'm not as well versed as many on the forum but your G stamp on the trigger guard seems to resemble an inspectors stamp. I acquired it a couple of years ago because I collect & shoot my original black powder firearms. The 58 NM Army I have has had a very combative life in action but had a tight ...

Re: Question, odd G stamp on right grip frame
Your input on the mystery markings are much appreciated, may be no answers to what the markings represent. A few years back a gentleman brought me an interesting Remington in the photos below for to check out, no doubt that it was a frontier re-work. It had a 9" .45 cal. round barrel with fast ...

New capper the works for 58 Remington shooters !
I've been an avid black powder shooter for over 50 years & just recently ordered & received a nicely machined capper made by a fellow shooter in Poland, this capper actually works flawlessly with the small nipple openings in the 58 Remington & will hold close to 200 caps.. It works diffe...

Question, odd G stamp on right grip frame
I acquired a New Model Army to add to my collection as a shooter as the exterior is a bit rough but the bore & action was in excellent shape. The frame ser. # is 117160 & barrel ser.# is 92822, both indicate 1864 manufacture. Inspection stamps on the barrel, frame, cylinder & trigger gua...

Method to remove stuck nipples
I recently bought a 58 Remington to shoot because the bore was in excellent condition. The original nipples looked pretty good but wanted to replace them for safety & accuracy reasons as the base-holes varied in size & that would cause variances in pressure & bullet impact & may have...

Re: Request date of mfg. info.
Your information on my revolver is much appreciated Billt, I believe you are correct. In my research online I read that in 1864 & I think 65 Remington was unable to fulfill their contract quotas so got permission from the war dept. to re-work defective frames so they would pass inspection so the...

Request date of mfg. info.
I'm a long time shooter/collector of antique arms & recently bought a New Model Army to shoot because it had an excellent bore with Remington's progressive twist rifling & would like to know if you folks could tell me what year it was made or recommend a book I can buy to educate myself. Des...
