Re: RESEARCH PROJECT: BELT/RYDER REVOLVERS
From a scientific mechanical theory point of view, the working lever length, between the pushing rod axis and the hammer axis, is very short, which expains the heavy trigger pull.

Hammer got one hinged push rod with sears at the bottom, and on that rod is also hinged the main spring pulling rod (to the left in picture).
The sears rod goes behind the half-way-through rod seen in picture Mech3.jpg above. The half-way-rod prevents the trigger-pusher to slip off the ...

The trigger cradle has the bolt on the right hand side and the hammer pusher on the left side, three items on one screw (plus the hand with its spring).
The pusher is in the lower right hand corner of this picture

The trigger doesn't work directly on the hammer sears. Trigger got a cradle for the hand and push thingie. See next post.

Main spring works the other way around compared to the 1858 Army.58, i.e. the spring is pulled up when cocking. Spring is stuck in at the back and held in place by a screw (from the back)

Re: Numbers matching 36 cal. 1858 but when was it made?
You need to make a tight fitting nipple wrench head, out of a Kamasa Tools socket, using a Dremel cutter. The fit should be so tight, that the socket will have to be hammered down on the nipple. The socket needs a good wrench handle, and the action should be shock, short heavy blows on the handle ...

Re: RESEARCH PROJECT: BELT/RYDER REVOLVERS
Hello Dan,
yeah, I find antique gun collecting to be fun, but my wallet doesn't agree.
So, to round it all up, the Rider DA is a very collectible contraption. But, when it comes down to shooting these old beauties, my favorite antique is the Manhattan Navy. I've got a first series, S/N 515, a well ...

Re: RESEARCH PROJECT: BELT/RYDER REVOLVERS
Hello Dan,
thanks for your observations. Mine is a rather early DA, so maybe that explains some of my negative experiences. But then again, I do tend to compare it to my other originals (Colt Navy, Manhattan Navy and Remington New Army .44, all SA) and as far as shooting a tight group, the Rider is ...

Re: RESEARCH PROJECT: BELT/RYDER REVOLVERS
Hi, haven't been on for quite a while, but have regularly shot my Rider's.
There is no real SA function, but there's a "rest" or a "pull by parking" shortly before the DA end (and fall of the hammer), kind of a false SA. To get to the "SA" full cock, it's important to perform a very distinctive pull ...
