Re: 1889

Congrats on picking up a really nice gun. I don't have an answer for you, I have two of them, one grade 2 and one grade 3, and both have all the markings you mentioned. I have looked at Semmer's book a lot, and don't recall seeing anything mentioned about the situation you have. Maybe someone will c...

Re: new 1889

I have also used black powder, in both AA hulls and brass hulls. I load them just like a muzzle loader, powder, over powder card, lubed fiber wad, shot, over shot card. They work well, but like you said, a bear to clean up after. Can only use the AA hulls a few times and then a pinhole burn through ...

Re: new 1889

Congrats on getting the '89. I have two of them and I am running out of powder for low pressure loads. What are you using for loads in yours? I had SR7625 for years, but ran out, and am currently using 800X, but that is no longer available, and I am running short on that. Looking for powder that wil...

Re: Model 1900 extractor

Thank you for your reply. His forearm looks the same as the one in the bottom pic. This is confusing to us, because his barrel is stamped "K D". Don't know what the proper name is for them, but one of the pieces that actuate the ejectors does not seem to be working properly. One of them is...

Model 1900 extractor

A friend bought a model 1900 (by sn built in 1902) sxs 12 ga. It is stamped on the bottom of the barrel "K D". The extractor is two piece, that is left and right rods. One exploded view I saw showed a one piece extractor, left and right on the same rod. If there are two rods, is it an ejec...

Re: Info on Rem. 700

I have a Remington 700 .223 cal. and am curious about it. It has a KO on the left side, followed by an upside down V. The s/n is 6876xxx , has a 26(maybe 25, didn't write it down) inch barrel and a synthetic stock. Very accurate riffle. What I am curious about is the date of manufacture, and anythi...

Model 1889 choke determination

On the Model 1889 it has the 2 digit numbers stamped on the barrel lugs. I see in the Remington Shotgun Doubles book they have a chart on page 262 showing the number under a percentage heading for different sized loads. My question is, how do the percentages relate to choke? There are 3 columns, 40%...

Bent hammer

I have a model 1889 double hammer gun. The left hammer is bent in slightly. It fires fine, but the hammer lightly strikes the tang prior to striking the firing pin. Is this something that should be fixed? If so, what is the best way to fix it? Or is there a source for original parts to replace it? I...
