Re: Stud Extractor
Good pic . thanks. I wonder if its because those cases are a big diameter, hence the concave BB. Milling a slot in the barrel for a sliding extractor might weaken it by getting to close to the wall. The case head is close to the concave so makes the stud extractor easy to fit. As cases got smaller ,...

Re: Stud Extractor
That could be right.
Looking at my 45-70 with the concave breech block it might work with a stud extractor.
This 40 cal rim is too far away from it to work. It might work if I had a flat breech block instead of the concave one.
I will just mill the slot for the bar extractor anyway.

Stud Extractor
Does anyone know why the stud extractor was scrapped?
Looks a functional simple thing in line with its rolling block action.
Was thinking of making one instead of having to mill the barrel for the sliding one.

Re: Another Rolling Block
Now that is a pretty rifle. Nice bit of timber too. I dont have the skills for that detail. Rolling blocks are fairly scarce here in Australia and I have never seen a shotgun in the flesh so I just have to rely on what I am told. This action came with a bit of light coloured timber that I dont like ...

Re: Another Rolling Block
I read on another forum that with a hammer nose like that , its been a shotgun. I got impatient and rubbed a stick of chalk in the grooves of the thread untill I had an image. Its 18 TPI. I turned down a bit of inch bar and threaded it 18TPI and kept going untill the receiver screwed on. That gives ...

Re: Another Rolling Block
I want to rebarrel this but dont have a stub. Can anyone tell me what the OD of the tenon should be and the thread pitch?
I cant find my little internal thread gauge and my others are too big to fit in.
Its a V form thread unlike the Remingtons.

Re: Another Rolling Block
Reading more of Laymans book I see it is one of the relatively rare Norwegian rifles made at the Konigsberg Arsenal and is a Model 1867. In the photo the crown with a K under it can just be seen under the extractor screw. It has been refinished so much the other markings must be polished off. The he...

Re: How much of a bitsa is this Military Roller ?
I thought it may have been refinished etc as the case colouring looks too good. If it has not had much use I wonder why the butt stock numbers dont match and if it had been assembled from bits.
But thanks for the confirmation.

Another Rolling Block
I had advertised for a Rolling Block action to build a new 40 cal target rifle on. I was offered this so bought it. Its fairly worn in the pins but should be OK. Does not have the square barrel thread so I doubt it is a Remington. Looks to be nickel plated and has no makers name and the serial numbe...

How much of a bitsa is this Military Roller ?
Its been a few years since I last posted. Time flies as one ages. However I just picked this up. From what I can gather from my copy of George Laymans book on Military Remingtons, it is a Remington made Model 1867 Swedish Rifle in 12.17 x 44. It has the 2 line address on the tang, concave BB with ri...

Re: Newby question on Rolling Blocks
Hello Jim, Here are some photo's showing you how the rolling block rifle works. P3260001A.JPG P3260003A.JPG P3260005A.JPG The hammer and the breech block rotate on the pins. Have a good day, Matt Hi Matt, I havnt seen the bizzo on the side of the breech block before. What is it?. Regards Keith.

Re: Is my Hepburn a Remington?
Thanks for that. I would like to save the liner, so I will try heat first, rig up a wire up the bore with a knob or something to engage the liner while I pull.

Re: Is my Hepburn a Remington?
Thanks muchly for your help 71fan, thats mainly what I wanted to know. This is the first Hepburn I have seen, so I had nothing to compare it with. Even though the barrel is mismatched I will still reline back to 40-50 ss and make a shooter out of it. I have a reamer coming from Pacific Tool and Gaug...

Re: Is my Hepburn a Remington?
Thanks 71fan, you did not have to do it straight away, but appreciate it. Does the size and shape of the no stamps look the same as yours? If so I think I can conclude it is a Remington, but has been refinished.
Anyone know how to remove a liner?
Regards from downunder
Keith.
