Re: Remington Keene in need of a little TLC

Did you find your parts.\? This post was on this forum last year. A guy with extra parts. Probably gone, but worth a try. http://www.remingtonsociety.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=20977 "Hello BNelson. I have a complete action for this rifle. It is in good working condition for it`s age a...

Re: Need help identifying this rolling block..

I own and shoot 2 Egyptian Rolling Blocks and I can use Egyptian or Beaumont cartridges in them. I found this out when my usual supplier couldn't supply the Egyptian cases so I tried the Beaumont ones assuming that I would have to resize them but there was no need to do so. Similar situation here: ...

Re: What do I have (danish, but not the standard one).

What of the "C.H." button on the stock? Any opinions? By the way, interesting gun.

A quick Google search shows similar disks with characters stamped on them. They are referred to as Danish unit markings. I did not find an example marked C.H.

Re: Remington 1875 Finish/configuration

Here is an entry from a catalog of fine antique American firearms by a respected knowledgeable seller.

You can read whats supposed to be nickel and whats supposed to be blue.

Good luck!

Re: Remington & Sons Sept 14, 1858 pistol - looking for info

Well it is a fabulous old family gun and holster. 1. The rust no doubt is the result of storing in the holster. A huge no no. The salts in the tanned leather caused the rust with ambient humidity. 2. I doubt anyone will object to knocking off that ugly surface rust with Hoppes #9 and the Frontier Bi...

Re: Remington & Sons Sept 14, 1858 pistol - looking for info

See this YouTube "How to clean and old gun & review of Big 45 Frontier Metal Cleaner". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaLK3noQx4c Its pretty home made but you will get the idea. He is confusing browning with brown patina. But this product will knock off surface crud and rust and leave ...

Use Big 45 frontier cleaner. It is a spiral coiled flat ribbon cleaning pad' when you rub the edges of pad lift off rust and crud but it does not remove the finish from the smoothed metal.

Re: Need help with Remington 1875

I know more about 1873 Colt single actions than 1875 Remingtons, but from years of experience with antique black powder cartridge weapons, I can tell you these truths: 1. The partial nickel finish is a very old and correct period nickel. Probably not factory but at that period it would have been con...

The date carved on the stock is the date of the eleventh constitution of Ecuador. Most of the Google information for Enero 14, 1897 is in spanish.

Re: White / Yellow grips on Over / Under .41 Derringer?

Are they natural? One way to test is to get a hot soldering iron or gun and briefly and gently touch the inside of one panel. Natural won't melt. They glisten like pearl but I don't recall ever seeing checkered pearl grips. Interesting and they look nice and old too.

Re: 1875 Remington SA - date of mfr.

I like your handgun! I still say that looks like the original nickel finish. The outside wood grip is more soiled and darker than the inside one. If it were mine I might clean it oh so gently with 0000 steel wool and re oil to get it to match. I know its a cut bbl, but the rifle sight looks authenti...
