Re: Remington Model 591M ammo?

The 590 series Remington rimfire rifles all use the same ammunition, and it all should read "5 mm Remington Rimfire Magnum" or "5 mm RFM". AFAIK there is nothing called just standard "5mm". One of the best things Remington did for the rimfire industry that unfortunately...

Re: 550-1 Date of Manufacture?

Best wishes. I'm in Canada so I'm no real help. As this is more of an information site, unless someone interested spies this post, maybe search out a firearms friendly buy/sell in your area and hopefully you can come up with someone who would like what you have.

Re: 550-1 Date of Manufacture?

Made 41-71. G lines up with only 1960 during this period. W would stand for August

1 in 10. Unless hunting monsters, the 165s tour out of the 20 inch tube usually very well

Re: Model 700 barrel code confusion

Barrel reads U W U P .

U-inspector
W-August
U-1971 (confirmed by serial number era)
P-assembler.

What caliber is said rifle? The barrel and receiver dating are a little wonky but not unheard of.

Re: Right-side Barrel Markings

Go to the home page and check out the manufacture date link. Good explanation there. Will help you date it as well

Re: I Bought a new (to me) Receiver would like to Identify

C6545956 is the serial number. It should be inscribed on the bolt as well. The serial number in modern times is not on the barrel as usually barrels can be changed. I forget the exact year, but serial numbers since circa 1968 are on the receiver proper. You are thinking of the Remington build date w...

Re: I Bought a new (to me) Receiver would like to Identify

From my own little serial number listing, it would fall around 1990

Re: 700 action mfg date

Sorry, I can't help much past 2000. I apologize for living in the past. Only thing I know is if the newer recall trigger is smooth, it may well be subject but now only an aftermarket trigger can remedy that

Re: 700 action mfg date

You'll have to start by divulging at least the first 3 numbers of the serial number if no letter prefix or the first 4 characters if there is a letter prefix

Re: Left Hand Model 700 vs. Model 700LH

I digress. Never looked into these much. You have in fact brought up a valid point. I've now seen others of your vintage marked LH, many more marked than not. Didn't really know that was a thing. There is nothing stated that I can find in Lacy's book on the 700s. Maybe he'll step in and add his 2 ce...

Did so. 1992. Uncatalogued. 500 made believe. Rarest VS. BTW I'm old school. IMHO VS's have wooden BDL style stocks of which the 500 in 220 is a part of!

Re: Left Hand Model 700 vs. Model 700LH

You are comparing apples to oranges with your pics. The second rifle you posted a pic of is a late model. I believe this came about in the mid 90s where LH was added to the model altho I can't find any substantiation.
