Re: talk about your all-time bone headed moves.....

There is a small tab inside of the trigger guard in front of the trigger - that is the bolt stop - push it up and the bolt should come out.

Re: New member and need a 722 butt plate

Is rear of the stock still curved or has it been flattened-the metal butt plates are curved to match.

Re: talk about your all-time bone headed moves.....

Bolt stop on a 788 is the safety lever - push it forward and the bolt comes out- same on 540/80 series-that explains why they suffer "lost bolt syndrome" more than others- I have couple of each and I love them , but you have to watch this quirk.

Re: Model 511 Scoremaster

The parts are the same for the most part. Bolts-triggers' safety's and parts (except the 510 safety) swap between models . The feed system parts are different(510-512) The date code should be on the left side if the barrel just in front of the receiver. There is a date code key in the forum.

Re: stuck brass in 788

Probably the mil spec ammo- try some Rem/Win/Fed 308 Win ammo- Military stuff is loaded to a higher pressure than commercial stuff. Be careful using force /hammering on the bolt handles on 788 and the 580 series- they are silver soldered and easy to break loose.

Re: Help identifying a model 5501

S N#'s were not required before the 1968 gun control act. Not all Remington rifles made before that date had them. Try Outback gun parts for the deflector and screws , there were two different styles I think.
