Re: talk about your all-time bone headed moves.....
Find a trash magnet like contractors and roofers use. You should be able to cover a lot of ground. A metal detector with a big coil would work too. You're better off finding that bolt. Even if rusted electrolysis can work wonders.

Lets see a pic of the left side of the receiver and the bottom tang.

Re: Remington RB No 1 Creedmoor
The Remington 44-90 is different from the Sharps and the BN version is 2 7/16 long. Again, chamber casts are in order as rifles have been known to be reamed. Cartridges of the World is generally, but not always, correct on cartridge measurements but you need to cross check. Marcots' book is the curr...

Remington 700 DOM
I recently bought what I think is a Mountain Rifle. Walnut, checkered, slim 22 in barrel, and hinged floor plate. Left side of barrel is B then a 59 and serial range is C6336xxx. Bluebook says this is 2004. Is it a Mountain Rifle for sure.

Wish I could help. Could be nobody knows which means you are the expert until someone can prove otherwise!

Re: Heavy Barrel No. 1 Sporting Rifle
It gets pretty slow sometimes. I'm going to give you my thoughts although I don't qualify as an expert by any stretch of the imagination. I have two sporters close to the same serial range as yours so I'll tell you what it has. Mine does not have tang patents but has them stamped on the left side of...

Re: Heavy Barrel No. 1 Sporting Rifle
Everything looks as it should. Is the bottom tang longer than the upper? Some pics showing more of the gun than closeups would be helpful.

Re: Report of Experiments, 1875
In the Report I posted above is mention of the cases being the "long kind". Can anyone clarify this? Thanks, David I'm going to stick my neck out here and venture that he's referring to the more 2 9/16 inch bottleneck (44-90) known as the Remington Special as opposed to the shorter 2 1/4 ...

Sporting Serial Numbers
This rifle is not mine but the serial number illustrates my question as I have one similarly marked and have seen others. Is the first digit a "1" or a "4"?????? http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =508119498

Re: Another ID Please
Funny, I see lots of sporting #1's in rf caliber...especially .32. In fact, I see half dozen of them for everyone in a buffalo caliber but maybe thats a reflection of the market. I do know that the 32 rf must have had a big following with the target crowd as evidenced by the numbers fitted with beac...
