Joe Loy
Is there a known date when Joe Loy started engraving at Remington? We know he retired in 1940.

Model 17F
What is up with the "Runge engraved Model 17F", Lot #2287, that is in the upcoming Poulin auction? The Model 17 last appeared in the 1932 Remington catalog, when Bob Runge was sweeping floors at Meriden. https://poulinantiques.hibid.com/cat...q=2287&ipp=100 When serial number 15213 was...

Re: Help identifying shot gun
What is the company name roll-stamped on the barrel? Remington Arms Co. 1905 to 1911 -- This John M. Browning designed gun called the Remington Autoloading Shotgun. Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co. 1911 to 1916 -- They began calling this John M. Browning designed gun the Model 11. The R...

Re: Model 11 ? why no roll markings what era
That 20-gauge Model 11 receiver with serial number 1007586 was put in work between May 3 and June 14, 1930. The Model 11A "Standard" Grade, Model 11B "Special" Grade and Model 11C "Trap" Grades had a plain receiver from their introduction until about 1937. The "Spo...

Re: model 11 (1939 ish) 20ga
I enjoy shooting skeet with my 20-gauge "Sportsman" three-shot version of the five-shot Model 11. I call it my Robert Stack memorial gun. In reality the gun young Bobby was winning championships with in the late 1930s was a Model 11 equipped with a Cutts Compensator. Bobby Stack 1936.jpeg ...

Re: Nickel
Looking at the 1899 Remington Arms Co. catalog I see no mention of nickel-plating for their shotguns, but nickel-plating was an option for the Double Derringer and the single-shot rifles No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5. To date a 1900 Remington Arms Co. catalog has not come to light. Both of the 1901 ...

Re: Model 11 with 32 inch barrel
From the introduction of the Remington Autoloading Shotgun by Remington Arms Co. in 1905, through Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co, to the last catalog of The Remington Arms Union Metallic Cartridge Co., Inc. in 1920, barrel lengths were 26- or 28-inch plus the 20-inch Riot barrel. In th...

Re: Question on Remington 58
Remington Arms Co., Inc. only offered the Sportsman 58 in 12-, 16- and 20-gauge. At least Simmons in Kansas and Purbaugh in California offered 28-gauge and .410-bore conversions for skeet shooters who wanted to shoot a gun similar to their 20-gauge in the small bore events. Not much demand for such ...

Re: Choke Measurement in 1889
A lot of guns have had their chokes modified since they left Ilion 110 or more years ago. I know my Father had a lot of the choke reamed out of his 1896 vintage AE-Grade in the late 1950s.

Re: Owner of a Model 1900 serial No. 328143
Do the barrels have an extractor or the split ejectors? If it is a KD-Grade it must be one of the first ones. When the K-quality guns (aka Model 1900) first appear in the first 1901 Remington Arms Co. catalog, there was only the K-Grade with plain extractors & Remington Steel barrels and the KED...

I noticed that the early ads in January and February 1906 show the actual net selling price of $30. By March they were showing the $40 List Price.

Re: 1st Remington Autoloading Shotgun Ad in Sporting Life
Well, today I did the January to June 1906 volume of The American Field . Ads for Remington's interpretation of JMB's masterpiece began appearing with the January 27, 1906, issue. However, they are all the middle third of the front page, and there is no way I can get them on my scanner!! The pages a...
