Are 742 and 760 Receivers Interchangeable?

I have a 742C from July 1970 that actually has a receiver that says 760 Gamemaster on it. The gun functions perfectly in most cases, with only an occasional FTF not unusual for the 742's. Is this possible it's a modified 760 receiver, or is it possible that it's mismarked? How would the bolt handle ...

Re: Question: Peculiar 742 rifle found at a gun show.

Thanks very much for your replies! You have confirmed my thoughts regarding this rifle. Had the receiver been in a little better shape, I probably would have purchased it just to have it. I already have a legit 742CDL with the game scene in .280 Rem so I didn't really "need" it. But, we al...

Question: Peculiar 742 rifle found at a gun show.

I found a peculiar rifle at a gun show this weekend. The receiver is marked Model 742 and the s/n was B74xxx.. something. The barrel was stamped AA and the caliber was marked 7mm Express Remington and it was 18½" long, but was NOT marked "742 Carbine" on the barrel. The bolt and barre...

Re: Remington 742CDL

Den, Sorry, I told you the wrong code. I must have been thinking about a different rifle of mine. Here's a picture of the correct code: WH which makes it August 1961. I also threw in a picture of the receiver showing the bear scene. The picture makes it look like there is rustiness on the bottom edg...

My codes are WG (Aug-'61). 5-digit serial number 60XXX.

Hope this helps!

Re: Remington 742CDL

I absolutely do remember, and have these links on my desktop, my phone, my tablet and every other device I own. I even have actual hard copies printed out and I carry them everywhere. Thank you once again! BUT (you knew that was coming, didn't you), the "percentages" listed refer to ALL of...

Remington 742CDL

Greetings all: The other day I picked up a Model 742 Carbine in .280 caliber. I was excited to find this rifle since it goes well with my .280 Model 760C and they look great together in my gun display. The 742 has the game scene on both sides of the receiver and the CDL wood and is in great shape. M...

Re: 760C in .280 Rem.

1222 Cs. CDLs, 121. This information is from Gene Myszkowski's book, "Remington Autoloading & Pump-Action Rifles.......tom So then, according to this same book, how may .270 Carbine rifles were made in the tootsie roll style wood from 1960-1963? Also, even though Remington changed the rear...

Re: 760C in .280 Rem.

I picked one of these up a month ago at a gun show in Michigan. Since MI is rifle country for deer, it made sense that there could be a 760C lurking around someplace, and I was lucky enough to find it on a dealer's table. He only slightly knew what he had and I ended up getting it for a fraction of ...

Model 742 / 742C History & Wood Style

There is a fantastic resource on the internet for the Model 760 and it's variations, but I cannot find a similar resource for the 742. I was wondering what wood styles were on the earlier 742C models and what calibers were made in the particular wood. I have a collection of 742C/760C rifles, all in ...

Re: 572 Fieldmaster barrel removal

Great success story. I was just wondering if this gun has the old style bolt assembly? If it does, then you probably noticed the ejector is completely different than with the new style. I love the older 572's and pick them up every chance I get.
