Re: Another one to hang on the wall
I have a type 2 split breech too. I've shot it quite bit, it is great fun. I completely disassembled it first to inspect all the parts. It took a while to figure out how. It is completely different from later rifles. Congratulations on your acquisition.

Re: Remington #2 sporting rifles - evolution and overview video
Thanks guys, glad you enjoyed it. I'm particularly interested in the very early Gem and #2s, roughly the first 2000. There were a number of developmental differences in the first year or so of production. Trying to sort those out and when they occured is a challenge.

Re: Remington .58 “transformed carbine”
No, I have and shoot a Transformed rifle. But a carbine would be a neat find. It certainly seems plausable that one might be cut down to carbine length.

Remington #2 sporting rifles - evolution and overview video
As some of you know, I've been researching Remington #2 rolling block sporting rifles for the last 2 years. I've made a video to discuss the rifle's evolution over its 41 years of production, 1872 - 1913. I discuss the many changes and variations seen on standard production rifles and provide an ov...

Re: Is this a 1-1/2 model RB? Thanks for any help !
I've been researching #2 sporting rifles for quite a while. I'm also an admin for the facebook group mentioned above. Based on your serial number and the rifle's features, I estimate it was built in the mid-late 1870 period. 38 rimfire was a common and popular chambering. I have one very similar to ...

Re: Remington Carbine 56 56 Spencer- Up Date Of 2009 post
That sounds very close to a .50-45 chamber. I have a put-together .50-45 navy carbine and shoot it with cases 1.355" long. Coincidentally, I shoot the same cartridges in my model 1871 Springfield Spencer rifle using a centerfire breech block. While nominally chambered in .56-50, it has a longer...

Re: Spencer rimfire cartridges
Ed,
For my split breech carbine, I convert starline .56-50 centerfire brass to rimfire. It shoots very well. Here are three videos from my youtube channel.

If the bore/ groove diameter and twist is about the same, give it a try. They shoud work.

Re: #2 Sporting rifle in .32-20
I don't recall the tang sight thread pitch at the moment, but Sam Simmons makes the tang sight screws. I've got several sets from him. His email is hoxycarman@hotmail.com
BTW. I too have a Transformed rifle. Mine is in .58 Roberts. Its a lot of fun to shoot and always gets attention at the range.

#2 Remington Sporting Rifle Research Project
Remington #2 Sporting Rifle Research Project This is something I’ve been thinking about for a long time. Many of you know that little, if any factory records remain from the 19th century Remington era. This has caused endless frustration among rolling block collectors and shooters. My area of intere...

Re: #1 Rolling Block Man. Date
I'd say that is a #1 as evidenced by the rebate at the top of the receiver sides. The 1-1/2 models are a little thinner and smooth sided.

I can't add anything to what Vall said. But just wanted to say that is a beautiful rifle, you are very fortunate. Is the chamber length for .50-70? What is the rate of twist? Does it appear to be Remington style rifling?

I took the derringer to the range and tried it with the reloaded copper case cartridges. Black Bart was caught cheating at cards. It didn't end so well for him
