I have come to the conclusion that the first Generation bottom metal is a hard anodized finish of the aluminum, giving that dark gray matte appearance.

Early 700 BDL bottom metal
The 1960's vintage model 700 BDL trigger guard & floorplate have a matte, dark grey finish. Later rifles have a blued appearance. Was the early finish hard anodized aluminum?
