Re: Rem model 12F

Your M/12 does not have several of the features of the F grade. I couldn't read the serial # but it should be engraved (like written letters). The stock quality and shape were definitely not with a M/12F grade. The fore end should not be grooved on an F grade. Sorry for this info, but....

Re: Model 12 Identification

Your M/12 was made in 1910. The steel mag tube is correct. Most were changed because of rust. My guess is that the checkering is not factory.

Re: Remington 512 - No SN ??

Look at "Manufacture Dates" on this site and the code giving the month/year of production is shown.

Re: Remington 512 - No SN ??

Model 512s had serial #s only through 1941. You can find two or three digits (letters) code on the left side of the barrel near the receiver that will give you the month/year of production. A total of 393,665 were produced ending in December 1962.

Re: Model 12 Serial Number

Rem made 14,266 Model 12s in it's first year. It sounds like yours has had a fair amount of use. My usual warning... Do not shoot modern hi-vel ammo in Model 12s. The M/121 replaced the M/12 and was made much stronger to handle the newer ammo.
Yes, the book is long sold out.

Re: Model 24 ?'s

I believe that the sight will not work, but I'm not positive. The M/12 changed over into the M/121 in 1936. Many M/12s have been "shot Loose" by using hi velocity ammo. The semi's may not have been changed as much, but I would stick with standard velocity ammo.

There are CDs available for $30 ($25 + $5 shipping). The M/12 was (is) my favorite. It has 23 pages of info in the book.

Re: Remington 12B

There are a few nickel plated 12-Bs out there. A gallery gun with little wear is odd. It obviously wasn't used at a gallery. If the sights are plated it was not done at the factory. There are quite a few alternatives on the ones I have seen. As an example, some have the butt plate nickeled; some don...

I'm not sure what the BJ4 is, but it is not the serial # nor the code to determine the month/year of manufacture.

Re: John Gyde?

The locking screw was used by Rem for a while. I can't find my reference material that tells when, but that configuration is proper.

The barrel length was advertised as 22", but slight variations are common. Yours appears to be factory.

Re: American Boy Scout

The ABS stamped rifles were early production. Approximately 1,500 were produced. The highest serial # we found was 1,482. Later production have Military Model stamped on them.
