Re: Please Help identify this revolver, better photos posted

Dan, the number on my DD is 493. As you say, it's a very early one. I'm posting it with some pictures in a separate post, so if anyone can provide more info, I would welcome any more info I can find out about it.

Re: Early Double Derringer

Here are a few more photos. I can only get 5 to load with any post. I thought it was interesting that the gun seems to retain about 90% of it's original bluing on the barrels, but almost none on the receiver. The grips appear to be original walnut and in very nice condition, except for the initials ...

Early Double Derringer

I had a few pics of my early DD in my post looking for help to identify a Remington revolver. It was requested that I provide the serial number, so here are some photos including the number. My understanding is that these were not given serial numbers as such, but had batch numbers instead. If anyon...

Re: Please Help identify this revolver, better photos posted

The lack of any signs of having a loading lever and the solid rear frame construction, along with the firing pin built into the frame; made it seem to me that this gun could not be a conversion, but must have been originally made for cartridges. However, after some closer examination, I was certainl...

Re: Help identifying a revolver

I certainly appreciate your reply and post, especially since you're the only reply so far, but I must respectfully disagree with most of it. I just replaced the photos with some better, clearer, shots of this gun. I can not believe this was ever anything but a cartridge revolver. I do agree that it ...

Re: Model 1858

There is a double sectioned flat style spring under the trigger guard. One side works the trigger and the other does the pawl that controls the cylinder. Typically the side that works the cylinder breaks off. This allows it to rotate freely and not lock up properly when cocking.

Please Help identify this revolver, better photos posted

Please help me identify this revolver. I'm trying to identify it and determine if it is actually a Remington and not a reproduction. I will attach some photos, unfortunately, they are not as clear as should be. I'll try to get some better ones later. From what I can see, it appears to be an original...

Re: What is this revolver? s.n. 125

After doing much research and checking, I believe what we both own are Very early Lyman reproductions. From what info I've been able to obtain, Lyman started having these produced in 1945, and had had several different companies produce different models for them over the years. Different companies t...

Re: Is it a Remington?

Mike, here is a link to an article that refers to this. http://www.floridareenactorsonline.com/revolvers And another that refers to a brass framed version. http://civilwarhandgun.com/remington.htm I didn't see it in a quick glance through most of my old books, but that makes sense to me, because if ...

Re: What is this revolver? s.n. 125

If you get any more info on this gun, please post it here, as I have the same gun (Ser# 286) posted as Please help identify this revolver. From what I have been told they are reproductions or copies of the Remington design. I know mine has been in my family and unaltered since at least 1958, and bel...

Re: circa 1860-70 Derringer

The derringer you refer to being an Remington Over-Under (model 95), had nothing to do with Henry Deringer; aside from the common name derived from his original design and then commonly given to most of this type of very small, concealable pistol. The Remington was an Elliot's Patent design. Elliot ...

Re: Is it a Remington?

I'm a newbe here also, trying to research one that I inherited, so I'm certainly no expert on these. That being said; in my research I've come across 2 sources that indicate that in late 1863, Remington made some of these with 6 1/2" barrels for the civilian market, as opposed to the 8" mi...

Please Help Identify This Revolver

I need help identifying this revolver. It looks like the “1858” Remington design. Here is what I do know for sure about it. It was given to my father by my grandfather in 1958. Grandfather owned it for many years before that, but I have no idea where he got it. My grandfather was an avid collector. ...
