Re: Relic New Model Pocket with Very High SN
If it works, here is the brass frame with iron sheath. With a serial much higher that it should have for being a brass frame.

Hi Jim,
You post a Belt model and a box of CF cartridges. Weren't all the Belt conversions in RF?

Re: New model pocket revolver
There may be only 2 models, the percussion, and the cartridge. After 1873, all pocket models were made as cartridge models. There are 4 variations; brass frame, brass trigger sheath fewest made brass frame, iron sheath iron frame, brass sheath iron frame, iron sheath most made The first and last are...

Re: BOOK ADVICE
A PM was sent. I have the Moldenhauer catalog with the SA and DA drawings if you'd like them. Several sources say that the Belt Model competed with the Rem Navy and that the Belts were discontinued in the mid-to late1870s. Remington Arms Co took over from E. Remington & Sons, in 1886, and by 188...

Re: DUEL FINISH SMOOT's
Those could be original, or they could be replacement cylinders. Remington guns almost always had the fire blued screws regardless of the rest of the finish. It is hard to tell without serialed cylinders. This would have been an easy special order for Rem. Just take a blue cylinder off the line and ...

Re: BOOK ADVICE
Hi All, Here I come, late to the party. Have to agree that not much is written about the Belts. All SA and DA Belts are called Belts. I haven't seen the word, "Ryder" used for one and not the other. The DA came first and was based on Ryder's DA pocket Model. The SA came later, and some say...

Re: Remington 51 pistol 380 in nickel
Sorry for the late post, but I rarely go to the modern side of the forum. The anchor is the mark of Remington inspector, Frank Anchor. If your 51 is original and from the factory it would be only the 2nd. known factory nickel 51. Value?? Pick a number! If it were factory nickel I'd start about 4x th...

Re: AMMO QUESTION
Even oxidized, the lead should still enter the cylinder. I have several examples of oxidized cartridges and they still fit the proper chamber. I'm unaware of the dimension differences between the various 38 cf cartridges so there may be some makes that are slightly larger than others.

Re: DOM
Unfortunately no. He was only able to record the numbers of the government contract guns. His highest is 33,600 made Dec. 1865. Remington made the Navies into the 1870s, most made as cartridge models, most in 38 rf, but some were made in 38 cf. I have seen numbers in the 42,xxx and 43,xxx range and ...

Re: Relic New Model Pocket with Very High SN
There were 4 versions of the New Model Pocket. The earliest are the all brass, the last is the all iron, and it is unknown in what order the other two were made. I suspect the following is the correct order, and the brass sheathes were found and used up after the iron frame production began. Brass f...

Don Ware's book on the Army and Navy revolvers has serials of the Navy models. I am not aware of any other serial lists for any other models.

Re: Double Derringer Monobloc
Is the finish a dull, matte finish, or is it polished? If polished and original it would be a very rare gun indeed. No mono known was polished to a high sheen, they were only polished enough to remove manufacturing marks. If the gun has a bright blue, I'd suspect a refinish. It was shipped in May 19...

Re: AMMO QUESTION
The cylinders were bored through so several .38s might fit. I believe that they were meant for the .38 short (Colt), but Remington wouldn't use another makers name.

Is the gun a 36 Navy, or a 44 Army? If Army, the given info is correct. If a Navy, then the date would be July, 1864.

Re: 1858 New Model Serial Number Info
According to Don Ware's book, both guns were made in Aug of 1864. Since the number are so high, both guns must be in 44. There isn't much info, or many records so this may be the best you can get. Buy the best condition that you can afford.
