Re: Remington RB no1? Sporter
Eskil, The four Remington #1 sporting rifles I own right now are serial numbered between 51xx and 99xx, all have the same patent dates as yours. Here is a pic of serial #71xx, a 40-70 bn. Notice the large rebate milled into the receiver side at top compared to Matt's pic with the smaller milled ...

Looks like the later model Remington #1 sporting rifle frame to me. Matches a few that I own.

Re: Rolling Block Shotgun?
Hi All,
I have the early sporting model shotgun. It is marked E. Remington & Son's with patent dates on the upper tang. The receiver measures 1.23" the same as my #1 rolling block sporting rifles. It has the longer lower tang trigger guard that has the sporting model contour, sighting groove on top ...

Re: Rolling Block Sporter project
Nice rifle. Great job. I really like the look of a round top action with an octagon barrel.

There is a picture of another early sporting rifle with the 2 piece trigger guard in Roy Marcots book on page 39.

Re: Early round top Sporting Rifle
I really like the early round tops. Thanks Marlinman93 and Matt for sharing. Looks like Marlinman93's rifle had its breech block changed. Maybe to convert to centerfire?

Re: Slotterbeck Remington?
Seller also states the sighting cut on top of the receiver was a Slotterbeck addition, looks like a Remington shotgun receiver top to me.

Re: Remington mold
Great find. I've always wanted an original mold for my Remington 44s. Any idea if it was made by Remington? Nice work on the sprue plate.

Hi John, Merz Antique Firearms has a couple of Remington Long Range Rifles on their website www.merzantique.com. Maybe you could contact them, I bet they will take some measurements for you.

JoJoDo,
Do you have a copy of Roy Marcots book "Remington Rolling Block Rifles, Carbines & Shotguns, Sporting & Target Rifles"?
The rifle on page 173 looks like yours.

Re: Another ID Please
Your rifle is a #1 sporting rifle not a #1 1/2. The easiest way to tell the difference is the #1 has the sliding extractor with a limit screw on the left side of the action like the one in your photo. The model 1 1/2 has a rotary extractor with no screw.
