Re: Difference between an 1876 and an 1878 Shotgun

Well the mystery has been solved and I was way off. Thanks for figuring out what I actually have. The guy I bought it from told me it was an 1873 Whitmore Hammer Lifter model. I figured out that wasn't right, right away. But knew it had to be either an 1876 or an 1878. I already have an 1882 and an ...

Re: Difference between an 1876 and an 1878 Shotgun

Well Thank You for sharing that information with me. I already have what I think is a Model 1876 ?? But not really sure on that. Sounds like you pretty much have to have hands on one to tell. It would be nice to see one of each sometime and do the direct comparison between the two. But that is ...

Difference between an 1876 and an 1878 Shotgun

Can anyone enlighten me on how to tell the difference between a Remington 1876 Whitmore Lifter double barrel shotgun in 10 gauge. And a Model 1878 Whitmore Lifter double barrel shotgun, again in 10 gauge ? You can't tell by the serial numbers, and Remington never put an actual model number on them ...

Re: Basic question on an 1873 Whitmore Hammer Lifter shotgun

I have several other Remington side by side double barrel external hammer shotguns. But not a Hammer Lifter or a Lifter. I think I will begin a quest to acquire those 2 models as well. I have a definite passion for old double barrel external hammer shotguns in 10 gauge. I have several Remingtons ...

Re: Basic question on an 1873 Whitmore Hammer Lifter shotgun

Just heard back from my buddy, and he finally got the barrels separated from the receiver. He said he had been lifting up on the barrel release before, but this time he put more pressure on it and the barrels came apart from the receiver finally. I knew it had to be something simple that he was ...

Re: Basic question on an 1873 Whitmore Hammer Lifter shotgun

Thank You for the responses back on this. I don't actually have it myself, so I can't get hands on it. Trying to talk a buddy through it that is out of state. I will pass your responses on to him and see if he can get the barrels separated from the receiver. Thanks again.
I have several old ...

Basic question on an 1873 Whitmore Hammer Lifter shotgun

I am looking at an 1873 Whitmore Hammer Lifter shotgun in 10 gauge. Can't figure out how to separate the barrels from the receiver after taking the fore-end off ?? I know it has to be something simple. I would appreciate some advice, Thanks.

Re: MODEL 14 RIFLE WITH THREADED MUZZLE ??

Thanks for the reply guys. Unfortunately, nobody on here can tell me for sure if threaded muzzles were ever a factory option or not. I am aware of the Maxim suppressors that were available in the 30's. But I doubt that they were popular or common enough for the factory to thread the muzzles of the ...

MODEL 14 RIFLE WITH THREADED MUZZLE ??

Recently decided to acquire a Model 14 rifle in every caliber. Want all of them to be in original factory, as issued condition. I have run across a couple of different rifles and a carbine with threaded and capped muzzles on the barrel ?? Was this a factory option in the 20's and 30's ?? Or is this ...

1889 BUTT STOCK, 12 GAUGE VERSUS 10 GAUGE

I am looking for an original butt stock and butt plate for a model 1889 double barrel shotgun in 10 gauge. There are way more 1889's in 12 gauge than there are in 10 gauge. Does anyone know if the butt stocks are different sizes for both gauges ?? I would assume that the 10 gauge would be bigger ...

1889 BUTT STOCK AND BUTTPLATE

OK, so I know I will have a better chance of winning the Powerball than finding this, but here it goes. I am in immediate need of an original butt stock and butt plate for a model 1889 double barrel shotgun in 10 gauge. And I will go and buy some Powerball tickets in the meantime, just in case ...

REAR SIGHT FOR A MODEL 600 RIFLE WITH THE HIGH VENT RIB

It seems to be popular opinion that a rear sight from a Model 788 rifle is the same as for a Model 600 rifle with the high nylon vent rib. However when comparing a 788 rear sight to one on a Model 600 rifle with the nylon high vent rib, THEY DON'T LOOK THE SAME TO ME. Can someone with more knowledge ...
