Re: Ridiculous Wood

Remember the apparent shortage of walnut which led Browning into the saltwood disaster in the late 60's?

Re: Unique Looking Model 32 Help

I would start by recognizing that this is a shotgun, not a rifle

Re: Ridiculous Wood

Dave - You are right. They offered a series of "Lightweight" guns, which were stocked in mahogany

Re: Ridiculous Wood

Another reason why exceptional wood showed up on standard guns was when Remington Directors (and maybe top employees?) ordered standzrd guns. They would show up with great wood which often had a blemish or flaw in it, and was judged not good enough to be put on high grade guns butecause of the flaw,...

11-87 LH

Thanks.

Re: Model 31L 20 gauge with TC wood?

Not related to your question, but here goes. I have a 31L 20 gauge. It has a crack in the bottom front of the receiver in front of the loading port. I'm told that that failure was somewhat common. Have you seen it often?

Re: rumors

I think they are on their 3rd trigger design. About 2 yars ago, I took my 1973 M700 30.06 into an authorized repair shop to lighten the trigger. When they saw the gun, they offered to replace the trigger on the spot, adjusted to my pull specification for $15. Obviously a recall.

541S vs 40X?

I understand that the 541S has a tight, match grade chamber, and, based on the one I have, it shoots like a bear. Other than cosmetics, what else defines a 40X?

Re: Odd three letter barrel code?

I had an 878 two-barrel set. (bet there weren't many of those made!) But, since my Dad was a Remington Director, it's not surprising. It came with "Director's wood" which generally meant it was a highly graded stock, but had a flaw that made it inappropriate for a high grade gun, but too f...

Re: 1100 LT20 Butt Stock Sizes

Lots of places to go on the internet Ebay, Gun Broker, Guns International. Remington made a number of different configurations. Make sure you are buying a set which matches your gun

Re: 3200 live pigeon gun

The wood is better than a run-of-the-mill gun, but not as nice as the wood on my "1 of 1.000" guns.
I'm guessing it is an early gun is the series. It does not have the gold fill in the engraving, and does not have a grip cap. Choked Imp Mod/Full

3200 live pigeon gun

Just stumbled into an unfired 3200 live pigeon gun. It followed me home. Is there any guess on how many of these live pigeon guns were made?

Re: Model 31H "Hunters Special" Grade

Regardless, they are great guns. I still use my Dad's solid rib 31 as my duck gun. I did cut 2" of the FC barrel so I could put in a Briley Thin Wall choke and shot steel thru it. I also have a 20 gauge 31L which is my wet weather grouse gun. Very light - Too light for a round of skeet. The rec...
