Re: .44/77 Remington rolling block
Yours is fairly easy since it's serial number is close to those used in the 1874 Creedmoor matches that were in the low 3000 serial numbers. I'd guess 1874-75 range for yours.

Re: .44/77 Remington rolling block
If a Rolling Block was made during a time when the top tangs were roll stamped, and a tang sight was ordered, then they'd definitely omit the rollstamp on the top tang. But not sure they'd even put those patent dates on the left side then or not? I have 7 or 8 #1 Rolling Blocks from an early number ...

Re: No 1 or 1 1/2 ?
It's really sad what has happened to these modern books as soon as they're all sold out. I bought my copy maybe a year after it came out as I've found they drop slightly after 6 months to a year. I think I paid $75 then, and it's well worth twice that. But now I see copies offered at $1000, and it j...

Re: Hepburn
Thanks! The Hepburns are wonderful, but one in .32-20 really appealed to me as I love the .32-20 and rarely see it in a Hepburn.Oscarflytyer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 6:12 pm MY oh MY OH MY! That is BEE-U-T-ful! And I am jealous! Love the caliber too!

Re: No 1 or 1 1/2 ?
I feel so bad that your gorgeous Rolling Block got damaged. The Stock Doctor does perfect work, and it will be like original when done, and also have the stock maker's stamp still, and serial number too.
I sure hope you can get the original fixed and not need a new stock.

Not sure how your claim is going, but I stumbled across this site for someone doing very nice stock work.

He has some pictures of stocks he's built copying originals that were broken, and might be another option for your rifle?

Sold my Sharps this morning, and took a neat Hepburn #3 as part trade towards the Sharps. It's a standard Sporting Rifle except for the 28" 1/2 octagon barrel. Chambered in .32-20 WCF, and in pretty nice shape, with perfect wood, and a great bore! https://i.imgur.com/WEEOPlpl.jpg https://i.imgu...

Re: 44-90 Remington Special Necked
Unless you know a barrel maker who will do a custom size groove diameter there's not much chance you'd find a barrel in that bullet diameter. But there's also no reason to make something in a non typical groove diameter either, and forever be stuck sizing bullets to an oddball size. Not sure where y...

Re: 44-90 Remington Special Necked
Never seen a Remington .44-90 with a groove diameter that took a .442" bullet? Have you slugged the bore, or is this a new barrel you purchased to build up the gun? Both my .44-90 BN and .44-77 BN rifles with original barrels and bores have groove diameters of .452" and use a .446" bu...

Re: No 1 or 1 1/2 ?
PS-Your Rolling Block is a #1, not a #1 1/2. The #1 has that stepped side on the receiver, where a #1 1/2 is a flat side receiver with no step. Your pictures show a #1 Mid-Range or Short-Range rifle.

Re: No 1 or 1 1/2 ?
I always request sellers remove buttstocks from rifles before shipping them for this reason. It protects the stocks, but actually reduces shipping costs also by making the OAL shorter. That stock can be repaired, and the repair will be perfect and you wont be able to ever see where it was broken. Bu...

Re: Need Part for Model 1 1/2 Rolling Block
Guess I'll have to take mine apart sometime as I also have a .22RF No. 1 1/2, and a .32-20, and .45-70 Cadet 1 1/2. I've had all of them apart, and the Cadet recently since I've only owned it for less than a month. Don't see any signs of any spring assist when opening the blocks and watching the ext...

Re: Need Part for Model 1 1/2 Rolling Block
I own three #1 1/2 Rolling Blocks; two in CF, and one .22RF, and none have any spring on the extractor? Are you sure yours hasn't been modified by a gunsmith?

The 1 1/2 first appeared in advertisements around 1885, not long before bankruptcy.

Re: #1 1/2 Rolling Block Cadet Rifle
I think George Layman mentions those in his book, The Collector's Guide to Remington RB Military Rifles of the World. He refers to them as a "1 1/2 Action", but obviously they pre date the #1 1/2 and are round top actions just a bit narrower than the #1 actions. I think they fall into thei...
