Re: remington 31 skeet
I had a '31 pattern skeet gun at one time. I think the S/N was in the 18XXX range and the barrel code was September '34 but I'm operating on slightly faded memory here. It had a banded barrel and the wood like the picture Researcher posted. No rib but that sounds like the only difference with your ...

Re: remington 31 problem
Well, I hadn't counted on that. I have no idea what's involved in sending a gun part Down Under. If you want to give it a try email me (see previous private message). I might have one that would work better.

Re: remington 31 problem
The carrier is a long dogleg piece that pivots from waaay back in the receiver. If the "knee" of the carrier wears a bit, the bolt slide will not lift it up high enough on the forward stroke for the shell to clear the bottom of the barrel. Simplest thing is to replace the carrier with one with ...

Would your name be Tony and would you be the gentleman from Az. I purchased that gun from?
That would be me. Glad to see you're getting good use from it.

Re: Model 31 Skeet, vent rib with Cutts
Of course then, if the "skeet" is only a choke marking, how do we identify a Skeet grade? Is it just the upgraded target wood?
I used to have what I think was a fairly unusual Model 31, a skeet choked gun with a 1934 date code, and '31 pattern features. What I thought unusual was it had the later ...

Re: 105 CTi
I saw a post today on Shotgunworld saying the 105 has officially been discontinued and taken off the Remington website. Distributors are blowing them out in the $800 range or cheaper.

Model 31 Frame sizes 16ga. vs. 20 ga.?
I know the 16s and 20s shared the same serial number sequence, separate from the 12s. Does that mean they also used the same frame, or were they distinct sizes for the 16s and 20s?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: M31TC
The 12 ga. Model 31s were numbered separately from the 16s and 20s (which were combined in the 500XXX range) so the highest 12 ga. #s are, I think, in the 12XXXX area. I used to have a Jan. '48 gun at 93XXX so I think your numbers seem normal.

It's a .35, not sure if that matters. New or used doesn't matter. You can email me at tonyg_20639@yahoo.com or post here. Thanks ***Found One***

Re: Changing wood on Model 31..
Something on the inside there is threaded. If I had an expendable one to experiment with I could figure it out. I'm a little "gun-shy" about messing with the wood on older guns.

Re: Changing wood on Model 31..
I finally got around to trying the method I proposed above and sure enough it lets the whole forearm come off the front. As to how the wood comes off the metal innards on the forearm I have no clue.

Re: Changing wood on Model 31..
I'm not saying I know more than whoever wrote that takedown guide but if the barrel lock mechanism is off, I don't see anything stopping the forearm from going forward, provided it's disconnected from the sliding block thingie inside the receiver.
And if it's not disconnected from the sliding block ...

Re: Changing wood on Model 31..
First, I've never done that, second, I don't know if you have the entire assembly or just the wood, but..
If you have the assembly, looks like it will slide right off the front if
1. Barrel lock mechanism is removed (1 screw, beware of magazine spring sproinging)
2. Receiver is undone far enough to ...

Model 31 Patterns
I stumbled upon something moderately interesting today.
To my understanding, the model 31 is typically subdivided into the '31, '34, and '41 pattern guns.
I was switching a magazine plug from one gun to another today. It's an actual Model 31 plug and it has a paper instruction label wrapped around ...
