Here is a group of .44-77 cartridges for various Sharps Sporting rifles and the Remington No. 3 and Hepburn rifl...

Re: Original description of the Creedmoor Remington rifle
It looks like the first Creedmoor rifles (at least from Sharps) was a full 30 " Oct. barrel in .44 caliber using the 2 & 5/8 inch shell. Single trigger, vernier and windage sigts and pistol-grip stock no more than 10 pounds.

Original description of the Creedmoor Remington rifle
Does anyone have a source that quotes the original description of the Remington rolling blocks that were used in the Irish and American 1st Creedmoor match. We know they could not be more than 10 pounds. Had to be single trigger of no less than 3 pound pull. Caliber? 44-100? 44-77? Barrel length: 32...

Re: Split breech Remington with additional hole in block
The holes looks to be off center, so maybe it was for a Rimfire shell?

Re: Is Anyone Here Currently Loading 11.7x56R for Hunting??
I have one also. I am pretty sure it had not been in 75 years. So I was working up some loads to make it go bang. I did use 1 1/2 swiss about 55 grs with a 405 gr lead flat point bullet. Biggest thing is to find brass that fits. .45-70 brass is a touch small in diameter and of course to long, you ca...

Re: Remington Hepburn
You might look at: Schuetzen Gun Co LLC Store Address: 1523 US-34, Loveland, CO 80537 Phone:(970) 635-2409 He does very nice work and should give you a very good opinion on the condition of the rifle. If you can go to Oklahoma, Dave Crossno near Edmond, OK and Dan Zimmerman would be good people to...

Thank you, I will pass that on. Do you know what caliber they use mainly in them? Looked to be in the .43/.45 cal size.

Hopefully, I have attached a good article on the Whitney rolling block action out of the Single Shot Exchange a year or so ago.

Re: Difference between the Remington and the Whitney TYPE I
Well put! Thanks for the reply. There is a nice article in the June 2012 issue of Single Shot Exchange magazine talking some on Whitney Rolling Block I found too. It has the breakdown of the two actions also. Great read! Did the hammer also aid to the locking of the bolt once the trigger was pulled ...

Might try Dave Crossno in the Edmond, OKlahoma area. He has a lot of patterns for single shot rifles.

Difference between the Remington and the Whitney TYPE I
Just sort of curious of the differences between the early Whitney rolling block and the Remington rolling block. I know once Remington let the patent run out, Whitney went to making almost the same as the Remington, but there was something that allowed them to get around the original patent in their...
