value of targetmaster 510

i just got targetmaster model 510 that has a production date of either 1940 or1962. it is in good shape. I would like to have rough value for it, also iwould like to know if it will lessen the the value if i refinish it

I'd go to one of the gun auction sites and see what they actually sold for, a bonus is you get to look at pictures to compare to your rifle, although it can often be hard to tell with a picture it does beat simply 'fair' or 'good', etc.. A factor besides condition would be whether it is a 510-P, that is does it have the factory peep sight, If looking for one I'd pay more for the peep sight. There were 558,686 made 1939 to 1962 according to the remington site which I think the link is on the home for page for RSA, I think production actually went to ~67?
