Remington Model 14 or 141

Post by acdc_tattoo »

I have an old Rem 30 and is either a model 14 or 141. the serial number is on the bottom of the reciever and is C 208xx.on the top of the barrel between the rear sight and the reciever it says
Remington Arms--Union Metallic Cartridge Co.
Remington Works, Ilion, New York, USA
Pederson's Pat. Oct.12,09,July 5,10,Nov. 19,12

Below that is has the Remington logo with trade mark below that.
On the left side theres a plut that looks like the end of a case that says REM-UMC on top, a U in the middle, and 30 Rem on the bottom.
I havn't been able to find any distinct characteristics between 14 and 141 and ws hoping some would be able to help.
the gun was my grandfather's and I got it after he died, so thats why i'm not sure which model it is.

You have a Model 14. The "C" prefix of the serial number deignates Model 14. Your serial number indicates the receiver was made toward the end of 1913. That is the second year of production. About 16420 Model 14 rifles were made that year. A rifle from that period of production would most likely have a buckhorn wheel elevator rear sight and a hard rubber butt plate. It may or may not have a brush guard on the magazine plug. If it doesn't, don't let someone talk you into replacing it. Hope this helps.

the C is actually above the serial number. not sure if that changes anything, and yes the hard rubber butt plate and elevator sights.

The placement of the "C" is normal for a rifle of your age.
