700 series bolt releases

Subject: 700 series rifle bolt releases.
I have a Rem 700 and a Rem 721 that the bolt releases either sick open (released) or you can't release them. The problem is not the bolt stop release in the triggerguard but the bolt release in the receiver. I have tried to lube the release, but that didn't correct the problem. The pivot pin seems to be in place. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and has found a correction? Thanks. gayle

A complete removal, clean and lube might be in order. Can you get more travel of the stop if you push with a screwdriver blade? On the 721 the coil spring and hole cruds up easily.
