RRB #1 Sporting rifle?

Post by BigBull 301 »

I just received a Rem. rolling block #1 sporting rifle in .45 cal. Not sure which 45 at this point, 45-70 is too long to chamber so I'm guessing it's .45-60, or Colt. I'll need to do a chamber cast to be sure. The metal has a brown petina over all surfaces. No case coloring is left and the only bluing remaining is under the forearm. It has a 30" octagon barrel with plain looking non adjustable sights. The rear is simple buckhorn fixed sight. At some point their was vernier type sights. The upper tang had 2 holes that have been filled in. There is also a hole drilled into the forearm about an inch below the forearm screw.
The serial number on the barrel is 3696, it's also on the tang. The number on the sides of the tangs is 27846, same number on both.
Did this rifle come with these sights or the vernier type?
What was date of manufacture?
What is the collector interest in #1 sporting rifles?
