Help to ID old shotgun
Re: Help to ID old shotgun
I have a 1873 and 1882 with Damascus barrels that I shoot all the time. Yours looks like a shooter, not a wall hanger.

So, thanks to "jake" I found that there is an issue with the lifter. It should sit flat when the barrel is closed and it does not. When the barrel is removed, it's flat as can be!

So, when I remove the barrel i can see that there is a push rod in the action. That push rod seems to lock into a part on the barrel. For whatever reason, that push rod is not allowed to seat all the way when the barrel is attached. I wonder if the repair job on the front trigger guard is to blame? Jake says that screw could be interfering with the push rod.
So everyone knows, my dad got this gun in the 1960s. Since then all that has been done is some oil. Never been shot or otherwise altered.
