I got this old Remington shotgun with S hammer double barrel and trigger 10 Ga.
There is engravings all over the receiver and trigger guard, which has bird dog engraving.
Inside receiver there is a 3 letter initials, J ? G. Meddle initial is not clear, it might be H, M or N.
It has serial #1405X. I picked it up 10 years ago in state of Michigan because of engraving art was beautiful. Gun is tight and works good.
Can you tell me when this gun was made and how much is value of this gun?

You have an E. Remington & Sons, Model 1882, in Grade 5. They were produced from 1882 to 88 and serial numbers seem to be in the 1000 to 16000 range, though later Models 1885 and 1887 were introduced, so Model 1882 production was probably skewed to the earlier years of the range. There are far too many variables to value such a gun from a few pictures over the internet. Suffice it to say a Model 1882 Grade 5 would be desirable to many collectors of Remington doubles.
Those initials were most likely stamped there by some long ago owner.
