Weight of 16 gauge 1894 and 1900

Post by Canvasback »

Because I see them very rarely listed for sale, and even fewer showing actual weight, I'm hoping a few members who may have 16s could post their actual weights plus some related specs (barrels length, LOP, ejectors/extractors).

As I recall the 16 came in at about 7# give or take an once or so. The barrel lengths offered are given in the Semmer book.

My 1905 vintage DEO-Grade weighs right at 7 pounds and my 1909 vintage KE-Grade weighs 6 pounds 15.3 ounces. Both with 28-inch barrels.

I have a 16GA BE with 27" barrels that weighs 6 pounds 6 Ounces. The barrels touch at the muzzle so I do not think they were cut. Unfortunately the gun was blued sometime before I bought it. It is Damascus with ejectors. It has a pistol grip stock with the original hard rubber Remington butt plate. The barrels have a few small dents and a small raised area. My plan is to send the gun into Briley and have a set of full length 28 GA tubes installed. The LOP is 14" to the front trigger.

I also have a 16 GA CEO that is at the back of the safe. It has a straight grip stock on it. Maybe later today I will pull it out of the safe and weigh it. I am sure it is heavier that the BEO.

As an aside I also have a 10GA CEO.

EQ Guy, are you nervous about Damascus or is it that the barrels have been honed or pitted beyond safe barrel wall thickness?

Thanks to those responding. I am on the lookout for a B grade (or well priced C grade Haha!) Sound like a nice group of 16s so far. Have just passed on an A grade. Not the grade I'm after and in rough shape. I have too many project guns now to add something.

I am currently in the market for a 28 GA to shoot sporting clays with and I remembered this 16 GA in my safe. As it has been refinished it has no collector value but is a nice gun. The fact that it has a bulged barrel gives me pause. I already have 2 16 GA shotguns to shoot. Thus my plan to have tubes installed. It is my understanding that the tubes do not alter the gun at all and can be easily removed should I choose to do so.

I pulled out the 16 GA CEO and it has 28” barrels with a weight of 6 pounds 9.7 ounces. It has a straight stock with a LOP of 13 ¾” to the front trigger. Since I was at the back of the safe I also measured 2 other CEO’s that I have. My 12 GA CEO has 32” barrels with 2 7’8 “ chambers as stamped under the barrels. It weighs 7 pounds 10 ounces with a LOP of 14 ½” pistol grip stock. My 10 GA CEO has 32 “ barrels and weighs 8 pounds 13.3 ounces. The stock is a replacement and has a LOP of 14 ¼’.

Thanks EQ.

Interesting about your 10 and 12 gauge guns. I would have expected your 12 gauge with the 32" barrels and 14 1/2" LOP to be a bit heavier.

I have two 12 gauge guns, both BE with 30" Damascus barrels and 14" LOP to original buttplate. One weighs 7 lb 8 0z and the other weighs 7 lb 9 oz.
