35 Rem 200 Grain RN

Post by CWarmouth »

Hey Folks, I know this is probably a ridiculously naive question to be asking right now, but does anyone know where I could buy some 200 grain RN bullets for 35 rem? Or even loaded ammo?

It has become an annual tradition to take a deer with my grandfather's 35 rem but I am down to just two rounds. I have lots of casings primed and ready to load but did not anticipate that I would not be able to buy ammo or bullets anywhere!

Thanks

You mean you didn't stock up when they were available??????

OK, I'll get serious. I did a cursory check through some sources and see they're pretty scarce......like everything else.
Have you looked into using some .357/.38 caliber pistol bullets or getting a mold and casting your own?
I have a Model 700 "Classic" in .35 Whelen (bought in 1988) and have loaded some rounds with .357/.38 caliber pistol bullets to experiment with. Not ideal, but should work on larger game with the proper bullet weights. I don't have any round nose 35 caliber jacketed 200 gr. rifle bullets........all mine are pointed and I kind of settled on the 225 gr. Sierra bullets for that cartridge.

Good luck in your search.

Thanks Den. I had not thought of using pistol bullets. I have a lot of the equipment for casting bullets but not a 35 mold. I'm hesitant to start another hobby right now but if it looks like that will be my option, I might have to. Hopefully things will get better on the supply/demand front.

My main concern with using the pistol bullets would be getting the rounds to feed properly. I know how finicky my 14s are and I hate getting jams. I will look into this a little more though and see if I can replicate a rifle round with a pistol bullet. I have a neighbor who has plenty of 38 pistol bullets so I'll mess around with some of that to see how it works.

You may have to resort to single loading the rounds if you can't arrive at an ideal overall length.......but, hey, lots of people use a single-shot rifle. Muzzle loaders do it all the time.

I would think that a 158 gr. .357 cal. lead pistol bullet would be a place to start experimenting. It should (theoretically) be heavy enough to kill a deer.

If you need any reloading data, my old Pacific (before Hornady acquired them) reloading manual has some data for 150 gr. bullets for the .35 Rem.
I'd be glad to post it for you.

That reload info would be great.

I did put in a backorder with Buffalo Arms and they are predicting a late December shipment. Deer season here in Alabama goes to Jan 31 so there might be time to get some loaded up and get lucky still.

Thanks again.

Thanks again.

I got lucky and found a guy who had 50 rounds of once fired and reloaded ammo for sale. Got it for $36. Of course I'll pull the bullets and reload myself.

Wow - I sold my Remington 760 Gamemaster .35 for $400 / with 15 boxes of shells.

The .357 / 35 Caliber - 200 gr bullets are not hard to come by.

Grice Gun shop in Clearfield PA can ship them to you for about $30.00 a box. I probably have a open box somewhere around here that I could make you a deal on also.

This makes me sad - I lost my 760 in the first burglary.
