Fieldmaster problems

Post by tmac86 »

Hi everyone,

I've bought a brand new 572 fieldmaster here in Australia.
I payed just under 1000 dollars for it and I'm a little disappointed.

Straight out of the box it would not fire!
It didn't have the power in the firing pin to dent the rim of the case.

I pulled the trigger assembly out of the bottom of the gun only to find paint flaking of everywhere inside the action jamming everything up.
That's the sort of thing I would expect from a 20 year old gun not a 2 hour old gun. I cleaned it all up and lubed the action with rem oil.

Then after about the 10th try it fired is first shot!
I also noticed a small puff of smoke out the ejection port.
As I fired it more, cleaned it more and re lubed it again and again it did become more reliable.

Now it fires pretty regularly but the den in the rim of the case is about half that of my friends remington 22 bolt action.

Is there anything I can do to sort it out like stronger hammer spring ect?

Also could it be a head space issue?

Am I being unreasonable to expect a new gun to work and have all its paint intact?

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Tom
