The early 1875 Remington revolvers seemed to have a post front sight and a lanyard ring. Then, at some point, the post changed to a blade and the lanyard ring became less common. I'm trying to find out if any 75s were made with the post front sight and no ring. Every gun I've seen with the post front sight has also had the ring (or a hole where the ring once was).
Someone from http://www.scorrs.org asked me this question and I couldn't answer it.
This one has a post front sight and the ring:
1875 Remingtons: Lanyard Rings
Our research says that all the early revolvers (those with a pinched front sight) were equipped with a lanyard ring. Later models called for it as an option. I have learner to "never say never" with Remington and I would not say this is a hard fast rule. Remington was very cooperative in modifying there standard to meet a customer order request.
