Model 11- interested in the age of this shotgun

Post by searay540 »

Hello, I recently acquired my grandfathers Model 11, serial number 381770. I am interested in knowing when the shotgun was manufactured and where if possible. Obviously it is a 12 gauge, but would also like to know what size shells this shotgun takes, and I assume it has a full choke since i believe it to be very old (60+ years?). Any other information provided will be most appreciated.

Many thanks in advance for your replies.

Remington is very gracious about giving the year of one of their firearms was manufactured if you call their toll-free number with the serial number of the weapon. Their number:

1 800-243-9700 9am-5pm M-F

But for a general guess: someone once posted the date of a Model 11 with serial number 321185 as being 1927. Mine with serial number 424072 is around 1939. So yours would be around 1934.

As far as I know all the Model 11-s took 2 3/4" shells. You'll need to adjust the friction rings to match heavy vs. light loads, too. See the pictures and and instructions about 1/2 way down at:

Just got off the phone with Remington. Mine was made in 1930, so that might help others with a serial number close to mine. They even offered to send a reprint of the Owners Manual for my shotgun. Remington was very very helpful. As a side note, they suggested Brownells as a source for a replacement plug, since mine is missing.
