1870's lifter date and restoration parts

Post by jrjr4691 »

I am restoring an e whitmore remington side by side lift barrel for my father in law. I would like to know the age and if anyone can tell me where to get a new butt stock?

The stamped serial number is 3702.

The butt stock is broken beyond repair where the trigger guard meets the wood. It has an inlay on both sides of the stock near the rest, a multi stained four point star(any ideas?). I need a new one to complete the restoration. Thanks! :D

Hi. I would consider repairing the orginal stock rather then replacing with a new stock because I do not know of any orginal stocks that are available.I have done this work before and I think it turn out quiet well..
Is the gun in good enough condition to justify the stock work?

Unfortunately the main reason the stock needs replaced is that there are large pieces missing from it. Someone attempted to hide it by mounting the gun, with holes through the stock, and putting the side with the missing pieces against the wall. However, i will get a picture and post it if you think someone can repair it. :)

Hi, Do not throw any pieces of stock away, that stock can be fix and if done right it will hold and look better.Do not tear the stock apart let the
person doing the work do it..I have done it..

The gun came to me with large pieces missing. It has been handed down over generations so no one knows where the pieces are. :)
