722 slam fire trigger nad loose barrel......

Post by drathaar907 »

My 722 in 257 Roberts arrived this week... Very Disappointed, trying to work with seller on Gunbroker.com to fix this....

Issue: Barrel - front sight pointed at the 1 o'clock postion when it came out of the box. It was easily turned by hand to the 12 o'clock position. Possible headspace issue?

Issue: Trigger is "slam fire" often when bolt is cocked, bolt will drop. Additionally it will also on occasion slamfire when it is cocked and placed from the "on safe" to the "fire" position.

Question is Remington replacing or doing anything for these "Slam Fire" triggers?

Any useful, constructive, recommendations out there?

Hello, Did you get a three day inspection when you purchased the rifle on GunBroker.com? This is customary. If you are not satisfied send the rifle back. As far as correcting this defect by yourself. If you own other Remingtons 721/722/725, take a trigger from one of them and see if it changes what is happening to yours! It is not too hard to remove the whole trigger but it is hard to dissasemble the trigger and get it back correctly. good luck.

If your 40+ year old rifle has not been tampered with, Rem would probably offer some help. I doubt that it left the factory with a barrel that could be turned by hand though. Who knows what has been done with the trigger... Sounds like a good gunsmith is needed to properly diagnose and fix the problem.
