I have a remington 760 gamemaster in the .280 cal. with barrel and serial numbers that remington historians tell me dates the guns manufacture date early 1957. I was told by remington it was one of the first .280's made and went out in the first shippment in 1958.
Do the facts of this gun make it anymore valuable? Just looking for oppinions. Thanks
Is this 760 .280 special?

Is this 760 .280 special?
Just getting into the Remington realm and realizing ID. of these quality firearms is a Chinese puzzle! Also a Quadrapoligic, a slow typer and the worlds worst speller. Sorry in advance.
Hemisboats, Here is one opinion, it may not be the same as others you will hear. The 280 came out in 1958 as you said, the 280 carbine in 1960. The 280 rifle is hard to find and demands a higher price than the other 760s except the .222, .223, .257 and .244. The fact that it is first year production may increase the price for the right buyer. I don't think that the first shipped has any value. The 280 carbine is about the scarcest carbine along with the .35 Rem. Any of the early carbines other than the 30-06 are worth holding unto. Also the 5 diamond checkering adds value. Hope this helps, ken
