I just acquired a well used remington model 1890 revolver. The serial number under the left grip and on the loading gate is 2004.
I'm wondering if the 1890's were numbered sequentially? If so is mine 16 from the end?
Anyone have any information on the 1890 serial numbering?
If so please email me directly at rhabraham2@gmail.com Thanks
SERIAL NUMBERS OF 1890 REVOLVERS
Re: SERIAL NUMBERS OF 1890 REVOLVERS
Hi,
In the book The Guns of Remington on page 199 it stated the following manufacturing quantities by year for the 1890 revolver: 1891 – 125, 1892 – 844, 1893 – 583, 1894 – 467 and 1 in 1896. It goes on to state that the revolvers were sequentially numbered from 1 to 2020.
Regards,
Bill

Re: SERIAL NUMBERS OF 1890 REVOLVERS
Does the serial on the trigger guard tab also match? What finish does the gun have? You have a rare gun so enjoy it.
Re: SERIAL NUMBERS OF 1890 REVOLVERS.
Thanks for the response. The gun is basically gray with a typically rough black powder bore .
The strange thing about is a former owner replaced the hard rubber grips with some home made wood grips. He did preserve the original grips though.

Re: SERIAL NUMBERS OF 1890 REVOLVERS
Kinda late for this thread, but doing a survey of 1890 serials in the past few days, two high numbers have shown up, 2021, and 2028! If they are sequentially numbered, something is wrong some place. Two numbers that are higher than the accepted total of 2020 raises some questions to say the least.
Any and all suggestions are most welcome.
Dan

Re: SERIAL NUMBERS OF 1890 REVOLVERS
Hi Dan,
Flayderman said approximately 2020. I think the numbers are approximate enough. By the way SN 2021 was auctioned by RI in 2013 and was supposedly owned by Cole Younger. SN 2028 was auctioned by Poulin in 2017 with a holster with an Indian Police badge attached.

Bill

Re: SERIAL NUMBERS OF 1890 REVOLVERS
Hi Bill,
The total of 2020 model 1890s appears to come from a single sheet
From Rem that listed the number of pistols shipped over a large number of years. There are numbers for "revolvers" for 1891 to 1896 which total 2020. The only revolver made at that time by Rem was the 1890. We have no idea how many were made, only the possible number that were shipped.
I already had that info on 2021, and 2028, but thanks. Do you have any 90s to add to the list? Please send me the info on finish, bbl length, grip material, and serial. If anyone wants a copy of the list, just send me your e-mail.
Thank,
Dan
