Remington Rolling Block
Remington Rolling Block
I am trying to gather some information on an old Remington Rolling Block. It has been in my family for quite a while, and family lore has it being used in the Spanish American war. Any help would be greatly appreciated

RonB,
In order to provide information on your Rolling Block, we would need information on markings & features.
Photos would be the most help.

Re: Remington Rolling Block
Caliber would help, too. Is the bore just a bit over 1/4", or is it a full 1/2". Former would be a 7mm, captured from a Spaniard, latter a New York State rifle in .50-70.
Re: Remington Rolling Block
Or if just over 3/8 inch then .43 Spanish caliber - very common in Cuban use & Spanish use in the Phillipines.

Sorry, having problems getting the image files to upload. Don't mean to be confused, but I choose a file, select submit, another window opens saying upload in progress, then nothing...

Re: Remington Rolling Block
This is a highly modified New York State model in caliber .50-70. The barrel and fore stock have been shortened, and the forelock might not even be the original one.
Re: Remington Rolling Block
Ehull, you mentioned that it has been highly modified, what are the particulars? I know the ball handle was added at the trap door, and it also looks as if the hammer was modified. Other than that, what do you see? My grandfather called this a "Navy Carbine". Where and when would this type of rifle have been used?
