Scarce #2 Rolling Block?

Post by RemRB »

I recently acquired a Remington Arms Co. #2 Rolling Block Sporting Rifle in caliber .44-40. It has a 28inch tapered octagon barrel in excellent condition. Mirror bore. Overall condition is fine to excellent with some action color, bluing excellent. On the bottom flat it is stamped 44-40. Under the fore-end is stamped P 43203 T. S. C1. Open barrel sights. I was told a #2 is extremely rare in the 44-40 caliber, true??
What might the T. S. C1 represent, and appx. date of rifle.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very nuch.

No. 2

Chas.

The No. 2 is not often found in 44-40. I have no idea how many were made...

I have a No. 2 22 That has TP & B on the bottom of the barrel. The TS or TP might indicate tang peep sight. I don't know for sure.

There should be a serial # on the bottom tang. That would help date the rifle. If it has E. Remington & Sons on the barrel, it is pre-1888. If it says Remington Arms Co, it is post...

Been out of town but thanks John for your info. The rifle is stamped
Remington Arms Co. The serial number is H 43203. I would imagine that dates it in the 1920's??

Chas:

Production of the No. 2 ended in 1909. Yours was probably made slightly after the turn of the century.

Enjoy.
