Plea for help

Post by woodsman@capt.cc »

I have collected .22 rifles for some time and finally purchased a boxed Remington 40-X Rimfire Sporter Repeater at the last J. C. Devine auction in August. It was shipped with three other rifles but never left the UPS depot in New Hampshire and is said to be lost. I am waiting for UPS to pay a claim to Devine who will in turn reimburse me.
I have talked with UPS trying to get them to report the rifle as stolen and to provide assurance that if found I will have a chance to repurchase the weapon but they have been noncommital. If anyone has faced a similar situation and can give any advice on handling this situation I would be most appreciative.
The rifle is pictured on page 21 of the August 10, 2003 J. C. Devine Auction and the serial number is 051937B. If anyone should encounter this rifle I would surely appreciate an email or conversely a report to UPS or Devine Auctions.
Thanks for listening to a disgruntled collector who would much prefer the rifle to a UPS check.
