Which model 722

I have a 722 in 222, serial #169589 with the letters AXX on the barrel ( March,1951?). The barrel is 26 ins. with the orignal sights. The stock is Monte Claro style with a shadow line checkpiece, the butt stock is highly figured. It has a back forend-plastic and black grip cap that is checkered, also plastic. From other photos I have seen the checkering is of the 50's style but has more detail. The recepticles for the sling swivels are circular and inletted into the stock. The inletting of the barreled action is excellent. It has a Pachmayr butt pad that shows wear from standing upright, otherwise the rifle is in almost new condition. A womens name is on the floor plate in gold lettering. If it would help I'll try to post some pics. Thanks

I can't explain the black forend tip at this time, but I believe what you might have is an early 722 with a "special" grade OR a 725 replacement stock. Everything but the tip tells me so other than I'm not 100% sure on the grip cap. I'm leaning toward the 725 theory as I haven't seen a 722 stock with a true Monte Carlo.

That's got to be a custom aftermarket stock. Nicely done though.

All the 725 upscale stocks I ever saw had the same lines as regular stocks. And no cheekpiece.

My guess that the checkering is definatley aftermarket. The little wood blunder in the middle of the checkeing does not seem very factory. The grip cap ic not Remington
